Welcome parents to my 1st grade class website.  The year is well under way reviewing old concepts, learning new lessons, setting up classroom routines and establishing rules.  Students have a lot to learn and I am excited to get started.  I will be using the Common Core State Standards to guide my instruction.

Thank you parents for attending Back to School Night. It was a pleasure to meet you. I will be sending home the first homework packet on Monday. The homework is due on Friday. Please make sure your child puts his/her name on the homework packet. The spelling words are available to study on SpellingCity now. The spelling test will be on Friday. Thank you.

Hello Parents,

This is Mrs. Villegas, your child's teacher. I will be using ClassDojo to message with you throughout the year. I also share information here.
Yay, I've received our classroom iPads today. I hope to begin using them asap. Please send earbuds to school with your child. I will place each child's earbuds in a baggie with his/her name on it. Please send earbuds with a straight jack. L shaped jack earbuds do not fit our iPads because of the protective bumper surrounding them.

Jump for Heart

Hello Parents!
We kicked off our Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart program this week and our school's event is right around the corner! We are thrilled to participate as we work together to raise money for the American Heart Association and learn how nutrition and being active can help us live longer, healthier lives.
First things first! We have an easy way for you to raise money online by having your very own fundraising page. Simply follow these steps:
1. Go to and search for Dulles Elementary
2. Once you find your school, click on Join the Team
3. Create a username and password and then fill out the registration form
4. Share your personal fundraising link with friends and family right away.
5. Download the FREE Mobile app for iPhone or Android by searching for Jump/Hoops and fundraise no matter where you are!
You may already be hearing your student talk about earning a free glow in the dark Scare Squad wristband! It’s free just for registering and if you download the mobile app, you can bring it to life and have one of our awesome Scare Squad monsters teach you about heart health!
Once you have your fundraising page, login to your HeadQuarters to get started.
1. Send 10 Emails or Ecards to friends and family. You can start by making your very own donation and earn the first scare squad monster and monster clasp! For just a $10 online donation, your child will earn both Jax and Charger and your teacher has them now.
2. Download the app to watch your monsters come to life and fundraise on the go. Search Jump/Hoops in the android or apple store.
Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association. We know you can do this!
Team Dulles!

Dulles Family,
Your child will be challenged at their specific level using iReady, RAZ Plus and other online programs in the computer lab and in the classroom. We would like each child to have their own ear buds (headphones) to use during these times to allow them to focus on learning without distractions. Ear buds can be purchased at the Dollar Tree, target and online. Please have your child bring their:
· Ear buds
· Ziplock bag with child’s first & last name
· Extra ear buds for students who cannot afford to purchase if interested
Thank you for your help!
Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Villegas, Mrs. Nunez, and Mrs. Hairanian

Think Central Math Homework

I have added this week's math homework to Think Central lessons 3-4, 3-5 and 3-6.  Even if prefer to have your child do the math homework on paper, Think Central provides lots of support to parents.
The password went home earlier in the year but, below is how to log in.
Have your child log on through our district's web link page.  Then choose Think Central.  The username is:
first name, last name initial, last 4 digits of student's number
Password:  student
If you have any question Classdojo or email me and I can send you more information.

Spelling City

Dear Parents,
There was a problem with SpellingCity this week.  Kids could not access the vocabulary word lessons.  I was able to resolve the problem. Thank you.

New Spelling Words have been added to SpellingCity.
Homework math lessons 2.14 and 2.15 have been added to ThinkCentral.
ThinkCentral is an excellent math resource.  Sample math problems are done step by step.  If you and your child choose to do math pages on ThinkCentral, there is no need to turn in the math pages in the homework packet.

Dear Parents,

Our class will be celebrating with a Christmas breakfast on Thursday, Dec. 21. We will have fruit, yogurt, hot cocoa, donuts/sweet bread and orange juice. We would like to ask for a $3.00 donation.

Thank you,

Mrs. Villegas
